K-Pop shows the world some of the latest fashion trends when idols are on stage and off stage. However, Korean dramas, or K-dramas, can also showcase fashion trends throughout an entire season. One of the most talked-about K-dramas to date is “It’s Okay To Not Be Okay” which stars Kim Soo-Hyun as Moon Gang-Tae and Seo Ye-Ji as Ko Moon-Young.
Ko Moon-Young is a children’s book author whose traumatic childhood creates her personality to become more defensive and rather, socially awkward. The main heroine is always dressed up in extravagant clothing that really emulates the latest Korean fashion trends, but also as a way to show that the main character dresses up as a way to mask that she is actually weak, as mentioned by the president of the OK Psychiatric Hospital in the show. Want to know what fashion trends Ko-Moon Young showcases? Keep on reading!
Throughout the show, viewers never really see Ko-Moon Young wear pants. She is always wearing some sort of dress, even when she’s at home! Many of the dresses she wore were flowy, had a floral pattern, and ruffles. These kinds of dresses are trending this season as it really defines the laid back moments of Spring and Summer, but also allowing room for more movement. Not to mention that most of the time she wore midi and maxi length dresses so she could freely move around as she looked for Moon Gang-Tae.
One dress she wore had the floral and ruffle detailing. It was colorful and vibrant but still showcased elegance and class. The floral pattern is all over the dress ranging in two different colors that compliment each other.
Many of Ko-Moon Young’s looks had shoulder detailing that really emulated confidence and power, as her character has a very strong personality. This little detailing helped emphasize that character trait and also helps anyone look more confident and powerful. Accentuated shoulders can mean having shoulder pads in clothing items to have a more elongated and broader look, or even having that extra ruffle detailing to make your shoulders have more oomph in them.
In this look, for example, her top has extra puff and ruffle detailing on her shoulders that help to emphasize confidence and make her shoulders look broader. They are also pointing a bit upwards so that also helps create the illusion of her upper body being more lifted.
Bold Statement Jewelry
An outfit is never complete without adding some jewelry to help compliment it. While Ko-Moon Young’s outfits were bold on its own, the jewelry she wore was also something to take a look at. In one scene, she is wearing a thick rounded ring. These kinds of rings are all the rave because it’s large enough to be seen from miles away but still has that subtle touch because of its minimalistic design. It’s the perfect ring to wear when you just want something to throw on but still look classic.
In another scene, she is seen wearing round beaded and square detailed hoops. The mixture of details aligns with the mixed emotions that the main heroine has. These kinds of earrings are subtle but are considered bold because of the intricate detailing that they have.
Jewels that sparkle is on a whole other level of bold and are a statement piece on its own. Usually, sparkle jewelry is worn with very elegant clothing, like with what Ko-Moon Young is wearing in the photo. Her light blue outfit set is complemented by small, but attention-grabbing, earrings that really shine.
Even while sitting in her empty mansion, Ko-Moon Young still wears very luxurious clothing items. In this photo, she is seen wearing this sort of mesh silk wear that gives off the feeling of a relaxed vibe. This kind of material is perfect for the warmer months and is especially good for times when you want to sit back and don't really want your clothes to stick to you.
The casual-luxe look can be achieved with different kinds of clothing items, mainly with blouses because it can have flowy detailing and with this kind of fabric, it creates that illusion of grace but a carefree vibe.
