One of the latest fall fashion trends this year is the sweater vest. Who knew? Sweater vests have been coming in all sorts of different styles, varying in length, design, and even structure. What makes a sweater vest unique is the layering aspect of the clothing item, which is the perfect statement piece for this season, since fall is about layering. It’s still a relatively new item to many people, and there may seem to be little ways to style it. Well, there are actually different ways to style it to fit any fashion aesthetic and these are just 5 of the ways you can make it your own.
Sweater vests are a great layering piece, and what better way to utilize them then by layering it on top of a plain old dress shirt? This is a very simple look but it makes for a sleek and clean outfit. Sweater vests usually have a v-neck and this detail helps play a major role in the outfit because this allows the dress shirt to pop out more, especially for allowing the collars to pop out. Whether the dress shirt is an actual dress, or even just a shirt paired with some jeans, layering a sweater vest on top helps to amplify the plain base layer.
Leather & Chunky Boots
The knit of a sweater vest makes the apparel have a soft and kind appeal, but pair it with some leather pants and chunky black boots and it changes the game for the sweater vest. With this kind of outfit, there is no direct statement piece since all three items would be statement pieces on their own. When paired together, they balance each other out making them combine into an outfit of harmony.
If your sweater vest is on the shorter side, it is the perfect kind of sweater vest to pair with biker shorts. This way the biker shorts will be able to have an appearance in the outfit, that way the sweater vest doesn’t drown out the shorts. This kind of outfit has a rustic feel to it, or casual look, depending on the kind of biker short you have. Whether paired with biker short leggings, or denim biker shorts, pairing it with a sweater vest can never go wrong.
Similar to the biker short, having a sweater vest that’s on the shorter side will allow the leather skirt to peek through and have a moment in the outfit as well. Pairing the two together has a different approach to the look, as skirts are usually more frilly and carefree, making the outfit look more fun. It brings back the preppy look, but since the skirt is leather, it makes the outfit give off more of a rebellious vibe.
Even though sweater vests are commonly worn as a layered piece, doesn’t mean that you can’t wear them by itself too! They can be worn like tank tops, except this time you’re wearing a thicker knit tank top. This style is casual and simple, perfect for days when you just want to throw something on and rush out the door. Easily pair the vest with any bottom of your choice, like jeans or leather pants, and you have yourself an easy but statement look.
